About The Author, DTM Katherine Tan, PHF

THE AUTHOR IS A SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEUR, consultant and mentor for many successful companies and individuals.

Katherine has a sterling self-built career from the tender age of 21. She set up a beauty salon business, which in a matter of few years was highly established, profitable and publicly recognised. She conducted beauty-training courses, which were attended by people from all walks of life. Her greatest sacrifice was to cease her thriving beauty salon business of more than a decade to dedicate quality time exclusively to her loving husband and only son.

Thereafter, she has the luxury of time to upgrade herself through empowering mind seminars and networking with professionals from various disciplines to keep abreast of developments in vast aspects of life. She underwent transformation from a professional beautician to a highly sought after consultant and mentor today. She has inspired uncountable number of companies and individuals (including students) to achieve extraordinary levels of fulfillment and success. She upgraded herself in order to be of greatest service to society.

In public speaking, she has demonstrated acumen for excellence. She has contributed significantly to the English and Mandarin Toastmasters movement in District 80. She held various key appointments from junior to most senior ones, notably her roles as Mentor, Advisor, Sponsor and Coach. She attained the highest recognition in Toastmasters when she has accorded the Distinguished Toastmaster award. (DTM)

Just to mention a few of her envious achievements, she was the first and only Toastmaster to be handed the District 80 (covering Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and Thailand), District Governor Citation in 2004-2005, Toastmasters International. She received the District Governor Citation again in 2006-2007 for dedicated service and outstanding leadership. She also won the Outstanding Area Governor of the Year Award 2004-2005 and the Area B4 Toastmaster of the Year in 2003-2004. In addition, she chartered the Bukit Merah Community Centre Toastmasters Club, Tanjong Pagar Community Club Toastmasters Club and served as their Charter President, UBS Mandarin Toastmasters Club and PMTA Mandarin Toastmasters Club as Sponsor and sponsored several other Clubs from 2003 till to-date.

With unrelenting energies and mental strength, she also revived the Breakthrough Toastmasters Club and nurtured it into a Select Distinguished Club in 2006-2007.

Katherine also channeled a good portion of her time and energy to social work. Besides attending to the needs of the less fortunate in society, she took on directorships and key appointments in prestigious institutions.

In 2006, she became a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. She also held various prestigious positions including Vocational Service Director, Club Service Director of Rotary Club of Civic District, 3310, Rotary International during the 2003-2007 period and numerous positions as Vice President in The Culture Society (2003-2008). She also tirelessly served as Charter 1st Vice President (2003-2005), President (2005-2006) and Membership Chairman (2006-2008) of Lions Club of Singapore Culture.

In 2007, she became a Melvin Jones Fellow of the International Association of Lions Clubs.
